In September we continued our education as PADI Scuba Divers in the Keys! We completed 5 dives over the course of 2 days focusing on different Adventure Dive specialties.

  • Navigation Dive
  • Deep Dive
  • Wreck Dive
  • Fish Identification Dive
  • Boat Dive

We got more comfortable in the water and felt just how currents, waves, and surge can impact a dive. The hardest dive was the deep dive to 100 feet. We used a line to help guide us to the wreck and at the surface I just couldn’t do it initially. So our amazing instructor started the descent before me after asking if I was okay. It helped to keep eye contact with her and eventually I got a little more comfortable. I’m so proud of myself for conquering the sudden anxiety and had a truly awesome time once at depth.

We swam around the Eagle shipwreck, witnessing various fish, corals, and even a huge moray eel, goliath grouper, and crab! One take away from the weekend was learning how to properly weight myself for better trim. We didn’t wear our wetsuits, so I didn’t need as much weight. On the wreck dive, I found myself sinking when swimming in a straight line. To compensate for that I added more air to my BCD, but to conserve some of that air I would just swim harder. Im definitely looking forward to more practice on that skill. On the first day of the trip we swam around Molasses Reef. This area was breathtaking! More fish than you could possible imagine, in so many colors. I can’t wait to go back and just float around. In addition to our instructor, we met some other awesome people with Seminole Scuba. We are looking forward to seeing everyone again on the next dive!

Just another beautiful day hanging out under Blue Heron Bridge on Sunday October 11th! We took our first recreational dive after becoming PADI Advanced Open Water Divers and couldn’t believe the incredible animals we swam with. We were able to swim slowly through the pilings, and practive shooting video with our GoPro 13. My husband had adjsuted the settings specifically for this location and I think the footage looks much better. I also took some still frames using CapCut to better identify the animals we saw. Check out some of the animals we saw below!
