Day 18: New

I need a new car. I passed my driving test and received a shiny new license in 2014. I borrowed my mom’s car: a 2003 Hyundai Sonata. I was so excited to drive to school on my own and take my friends anywhere we wanted to go!

My first year in college my mom did not allow me to take the car. While annoying, I understood that it was not my car. When I worked my first summer internship at Universal Orlando Resort, I needed the car, so I packed up my belongings to survive the summer and drove down to Orlando with my Mom! It was a really fun road trip. I drove the car all summer long and it kept putting away. Then my dad and I drove all the way back to Connecticut.

Come next summer, I planned on working at Universal again and need the car. So for a second time I packed up the car and drove to Orlando, but this time I drove alone. I really enjoyed the solace of being alone on the road. The car made it to Orlando and back to Connecticut that summer. I loved having the car and experiencing true independence and freedom.

At this point the 2003 Hyundai Sonata is basically my car. I drove down to Orlando one last time in 2018 where I moved to the state permanently to work at Universal Orlando Resort.

  • My car has driven over 200,000 miles.
  • My car as several dents and scrapes all with good stories
  • My car needs an oil change every few months
  • My car needed the motor blower and resistor replaced
  • My car needed a new radiator

The list of repairs goes on and on since I’ve moved to Florida. The car is old and just keeps putting along while guzzling my money. I really need a new car and I am sure my mom is tired of me complaining about all the problems with this 2003 Hyundai Sonata.

I test drove a Hyundai Elantra GT. At that moment I fell in love with a car. It drove smooth and had a very spacious inside. I am a tall individual so space in a car is extremely important to me. I like the layout of the dashboard as well. It really was a car I could see myself driving around in in the future. I hope to purchase a new used car in August/September!
