Day 9: Pairs

I started this blog by looking through photos on my computer. Maybe I’ll see a pair of something that inspires me to write a post today. The first photo I found was taken in the town of Seligman, Arizona just off Route 66. It features a pair of lines!

I stumbled upon this eclectic town while driving from Sedona back to Lass Vegas. It had always been a dream of mine to drive down Route 66, especially after seeing Disney-Pixar’s original film: Cars! This town was full of character and features vehicles with paper eyes on the windshield.

One was even a rusted old tow truck very reminiscent of Mater. Capturing a photo of the 2 lane road from a lower angle gives a different perspective and emphasises the wide open road of Route 66.

The next photo I found was taken at the Orlando Wetlands Park in Christmas, Florida. It features a pair of railings on a wooden bench!

I really love photos that showcase perspective, especially if they include symmetry as well. There is something about the photo that is pleasing to the eye.

A friend from work showed me around this park. Walking over this bridge, I had to stop and take a photo because of the beauty of the symmetry and mystery of what was on the over side.

The next photo I found was taken at Boulder Beach in Simon’s Town, Cape town, South Africa. It features a pair of penguins!

What a surreal feeling being inches, feet away from these beautiful penguins! Visiting Boulder Beach was an amazing experience and I highly recommend visiting if you ever find yourself in South Africa. I got literally swim with penguins.

I had the opportunity to get up close and personal with these animals. There were several areas of the beach to explore with some being more difficult to get to and therefore had less people.

The last photo I found was taken at the Remhoogte Wine Estate in the Stellenbosch region of South Africa. It features a cheese and wine pairing!

Wine and cheese pair very well together. I sampled five different cheeses with five different wines. If I remember correctly I did enough most of the cheeses, but was not fond of some of the wines. While willing to try just about anything, I prefer sweet white wines and champagne.

This vineyard also featured beautiful fields and animals on the property. Over the course of the day we visited 5 more wine estates, ate a home cooked lunch, and paired chocolates with wine. I bought a port at that vineyard, which I still haven’t opened.

I think it is safe to say most people first think of a pair of shoes when they hear pairs. I know that’s what I thought of but I wanted to further challenge myself to think outside the box when I wrote a response to today’s prompt.

  1. I love the picture of the penguins. I always wanted to see them, and got to do that at Boulder Beach some years back. Amazing that you got to swim with them!
